On the topic of commentary, does anyone else find it insane how heavily biased the commentary was towards Erceg? I know the commentary is almost always biased towards one side but if you closed your eyes and listed to them, it felt like Erceg was dominating the fight and it wasn’t remotely close. Everytime he’d land anything DC and felder wouldn’t shut up about how impactful it was or how tired Pantoja looked

At this point I just assume that the UFC absolutely have people that they want to be champions and actively tell their commentators to root for them. Even if they lose then making them popular with the fans through hype will make it easier to give that guy another shot in the future. Steve Erceg is an exciting fighter in a division that a lot of casual fans pay no attention to so of course they'd love to have him as the champion. There's a reason why Erceg got a shot after about 3 UFC fights and someone Like Belal Muhammad who's had about 4 times as many wins. Obviously Welterweight is deeper which is a factor but he'd have got a shot by now if he was as exciting as Erceg is.

In all honesty, Belal does deserve his title shot, he has the credentials. People just REALLY undermine his achievements because he’s essentially a modern-wing Jon Fitch or Jake Shields, or because it’s just a fun meme. Personally, I’m rooting for him because anybody that pisses off MMA fans is cool in my book, and the idea of how many people are going to be coping and seething over seeing that title around his waist is so funny it would probably put me in the hospital.

Despite all the talk about Holloway’s amazing performance against Gaethje, I am surprised at the lack of conversation surrounding the fact Holloway has gotten two knockouts in a row with the same move: a ducking overhand right. Knocked out Korean Zombie with it, and then Gaethje. Interesting.

@ayy

I've learned to watch main events on mute for this reason. I simply can't watch an important fight and listen to Joe Rogan or DC at the same time. Their commentary is just all over the place and even seems forced at times.

DC is actually getting really bad. There were 2 instances at 301 where he said things that were just blatantly false.

1. Said Aldo was undefeated at 135 until he lost to Merab. Aldo literally lost his first 2 fights at 135, including a title shot.

2. Said Erceg beat "a top 5 guy in his debut". Dvorak was ranked like 13th or 14th.

No corrections or anything ever of course. Just says things that are blatantly false and moves on.

I don't listen much either but to defend DC and Rogan a bit,  if anybody talks and calls enough fights, your bound to make mistakes. They are not gonna go back and fact check every little mistake they make and apologize for it.

Same for referees and judges. You call thousands of fights. But as soon as you mess up your a huge piece of shirt. Rarely do people remember the 99.9% of correctly called fights.

I would imagine if I was recorded in every conversation I had my entire life and millions of people were listening and ready to pounce on the slightest incorrect statement I made. That would suck terribly.

This. You say the same thing with political and financial commentators. If you talk stocks 3 hours a day, 250 days a year, you're going to make some wrong calls.

They all lie about match records and other statistics all the time. It's scripted by the UFC, unless we're supposed to believe that almost every commentator gets things wrong that often. It's very evident when you like me watch hours and hours of tape every day. They'll claim someone is coming off a 4 fight win streak, there's a loss in between their last 4 wins. Someone else has finished every single fight they won, they have 2 decision wins from 3 years ago. Someone just started MMA 2 years ago! Tap and Sherdog has professional matches from 4 years ago. They're as bad as Chael Sonnen when it comes to factoids and it's pretty blatant.

I don’t blame the commentators for their lackluster work, mainly because they have such ****** scripts to work with. Since the ESPN deal, the once blunt and often entertaining duo of Joe Rogan and Goldberg has quickly melted away into the UFC’s attempt at more “official” commentary, which I hate, because

1. They aren’t hiring the right people. DC, Felder and Cruz aren’t bad at their job, but they’re not showmen either. Boxing commentators are showmen, they’re very quotable and sometimes ******* hilarious. The most entertainment I get out of modern UFC commentary is when Jon Anik tries not to cringe at advertising Hasbulla merchandise.

2. They aren’t letting the commentators breathe and express their opinions in a straight-forward or passive-aggressive manner. I think I recall DC commenting briefly on how Sean hasn’t fought the best competition, and you could just feel some suit putting a glock to his head telling him to keep it quiet. A lack of honesty is a lack of opportunities to pull in the audience.

In summary: The UFC needs to stop being a bunch of ******* and learn to have fun instead fulfilling a bottom line.

Max Holloway glazers if he beats Volk in a fourth fight:

“Well technically, it’s actually 3 - 1 Holloway, not 3 - 1 Volk, because the second fight was a robbery, which makes it 2 - 2, and I didn’t watch the first fight, but my friend told me it was a robbery, so that makes it 1 - 3, although you could say Max wasn’t really feeling it in the third fight and therefore wasn’t at 100% power, so that would actually make it 4 - 0 Max”

Man, I watched the TUF season Matt Brown was on with Forrest Griffin and my mind is fuzzy but the guys in the house were all aware of him, and man it's been a hell of a ride for him. Never in a boring fight, never a steroid cheat, respect, champion.
